Week of May 19, 2014

2014/5/19 18:26:42

Week of 5/19/14 – If you’ve seen the Norwood House lately, you know things are changing over there, in a big way. Environmental remediation is almost over! The last of the lead-paint removal and/or encapsulation is being accomplished now. The interior is all cleaned up, down to the studs. Natural light is pouring into the house through all those wonderful old Arts & Crafts windows, and thanks to the removal of the old plaster, we can see for the first time just how roomy this little bungalow is. Our plan to open up the interior space, connect it with that fantastic view of the Austin skyline, and repurpose the house & grounds to serve the people…suddenly makes a whole lot more sense.

Last week’s heavy downpours delayed the finish of remediation, but that’s OK with us, since the trade-off was an awesome soaking for Norwood’s many heritage oaks (and all of our yards in this persistent drought). We are thrilled with the progress made over the last 2 weeks and excited about announcements to come. A special shout-out to our friends at PARD and all our Norwood volunteers who’ve stepped up to help during the remediation period. Thank you!
