Week of 4/28/14 – Drumroll please…work starts on the house on Monday! Yes, the 28th will see crews arriving to begin environmental remediation. This involves removing or encapsulating lead and asbestos so that this 1922 bungalow is made safe for a new lease on life. The remediation should take ten days or less to accomplish. From there we can move forward with all the other work of Phase I: engineering a new foundation, replacing rotted wood, removing interior walls, sheathing the house in protective plywood, installing a temporary shingled roof, etc. When Phase I is done, we’ll have a strengthened, straightened-out, cleaned-up & protected bungalow, ready for its return to Arts & Crafts beauty (aka Phase II). You can believe we’ll be out there with a camera on Monday, a historic day indeed for the decades-old effort to save the Norwood House.
